Monique Sicheter just wanted to have fun at the beach.
Sicheter, 20, never imagined her beach gram would ‘terrify’ some of her friends.
The Townsville, Queensland native was enjoying a day at Magnetic Island located off the northern coastline of Australia. She and a friend spent the afternoon tanning on the rocks and swimming in the brisk waters.
After returning home, Sicheter posted pictures of her beach day. However, one picture captured everyone’s attention. On Monique’s right side, just beneath the water’s surface, was a strange object.
A ghost hand.
A Terrifying Discovery at the Beach
“My friend and I decided to spend the day at Magnetic Island, as it was the weekend and we wanted to do something fun and get out of the house. After sunbaking for quite some time, we decided to go for a swim and take a couple of photos before heading back home. At the time the photograph was taken, the water was crystal clear, and there were no other people anywhere near us. We did not see anything in the water, as it was so clear, and we were definitely looking in the water, as we have to watch out for things like stingrays and even crocodiles sometimes.”
“I only noticed the ‘hand’ in the water two days later when I was showing a work mate and they pointed it out… I felt shocked and confused, and couldn’t get my head around if it really was a hand.”

Sicheter shared the picture on Instagram where the post went viral. The internet weighed in and debated what the hand-like object could be.
“I see a right hand, literally four fingers and a thumb in a skin tone.”
“Girl that’s a dead body.”
“You about to get your leg grabbed and drowned by the babe in Paranormal Activity.”
“Who needs the blue or gold dress in 2022, when we have, ‘Is it a dead person’s hand or an upside down crab?’”
Thousands of internet opinions later, Sicheter is still confused and concerned.
“I personally have no idea what it could be, as there are no reasonable explanations on what it is” Sicheter said. █
