Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and famous video game auteur, revealed a “playable teaser” at Gamescom 2014. The short, playable trailer went on to rock the foundations of video game horror history. The game trailer’s reveal was nothing less than a fully interactive, playable teaser event for a resurrection of Konami’s popular Silent Hill franchise starring Norman Reedus.
The internet went wild. However, the expectations surrounding the latest entry into the Silent Hill franchise came to an abrupt halt. After a protracted battle over creative differences between Kojima and developer Konami reached a fevered pitch, Konami separated from Kojima and axed the game. Within a short time, the playable trailer was removed from Playstation’s digital storefront, never to be seen again. Kojima’s P.T. lives on only in the hearts and minds of the video game community.
Until now.
Enter, ROBYER1. Thanks to this tech-savvy Redditor, Oculus Quest users can open a program called Sidequest to load a recreation of the never ending loop onto their Occulus Quest VR headsets in their bootup virtual home. Players can relive the horror of the creepiest hallway this side of “The Shining” and search for hidden easter eggs, but now with the added terror that comes with virtual reality.
P.T. may not have any more lore to impart or puzzles left to solve, but it is still just as nerve-wracking to wait for the stalking Lisa, even if she is currently missing in action. Besides fan-recreations, this Redditor’s creation may be the closest anyone will come to experiencing the original interactive trailer ever again. █
